Data export & deletion

Download your data or your org's, delete your account or an org, and what is deleted, kept or de-identified.

On this page

You can download and delete your own data from the dashboard, and org owners can do the same for their org. Every action here needs a signed-in browser. API tokens can't export or delete anything.

Download your data

Open Account from the menu under your email (/dashboard/account). Under Your data, choose Download my data. You get a JSON file (comity-account-<date>.json) with:

  • your profile: email, name, linked GitHub login, sign-up and last sign-in dates,
  • your org memberships and roles,
  • your API tokens and CLI logins (name, prefix, scopes, dates; never the secret),
  • your browser sessions (browser, dates),
  • your account's security records (sign-ins, failed sign-ins, password resets, with the IP address they came from),
  • for each org you belong to: the messages you wrote and the intents you own, with their summaries and plans.

It contains only your own data: no messages from other people, and no other people's drafts.

Export an org

Owners can download everything the org holds from Settings → Danger zone → Export data (comity-<slug>-<date>.json):

  • the org's settings, members and roles, pending invites,
  • repositories, projects and policies,
  • intents (title, summary, plan, owner, status), except other members' private drafts,
  • conflicts (subject, explanation, suggestion, resolution and note),
  • every conversation and its messages, including direct messages between members.

Each export is recorded in the org's audit log as org.exported. You can download each export (yours, or an org's) up to 5 times an hour.

Delete your account

In Account → Danger zone, choose Delete account. To confirm you:

  1. type your email address,
  2. enter your password, or, if you sign in with GitHub, choose Sign in again. You then have 10 minutes to finish.

You are signed out everywhere: every browser session ends and every API token and CLI login stops working. A confirmation email goes to the address you used.

Orgs you own

  • You're the only owner and others are members: you can't delete your account yet. Make someone else an owner on the Team tab, or delete the org, then try again. The dialog lists these orgs.
  • You're the only member: the org is deleted with your account, as described in Delete an org. The dialog asks you to tick each one.
  • The org has another owner: you simply leave it.

What is deleted, kept and de-identified

What
Deleted Email address, name, password, GitHub link, browser sessions, API tokens and CLI logins, security records, memberships, digest subscriptions, message read receipts, dismissed "Needs you" items, your private draft intents. Pending invites you sent are revoked.
Kept by the org, as "Deleted user" Messages, intents, conflict resolutions and feedback, questions and answers, status notes, agent session history, handoffs. They stay because they are part of the team's history, but they show as written by Deleted user and are no longer linked to your email or name.
Closed Intents you were still working on are closed as abandoned, so they stop claiming files; your running agent sessions end.
Kept by Comity One record that the account was deleted, with its date and no IP address. Deletions by Comity staff are also logged with the reason, without your email address.

The same email address can sign up again later as a new, empty account.

Delete an org

Owners can delete an org in Settings → Danger zone → Delete organization. Type the org's slug and confirm with your password (or sign in again with GitHub). Then Comity:

  1. cancels the org's Stripe subscription immediately, without a final invoice for the current month, and removes the saved payment methods. If Stripe can't be reached, nothing is deleted and you can try again;
  2. deletes the org and everything stored for it: repositories, intents and claims, plans, conflicts, change history, messages and conversations, policies, projects, webhooks and Slack, the GitHub App connection, tokens, invites and the event log;
  3. emails every owner a confirmation.

Every member loses access at once, and agents using the org's tokens are disconnected. Members keep their Comity accounts and their other orgs. Export the data first if you need it; deletion can't be undone.

Backups

Database backups are kept for 14 days. Deleted data disappears from them as they expire, so it is gone from every copy within 14 days. See the Privacy Policy.

Deletion by Comity staff

Comity staff can delete an account or an org from the admin console, for example for an emailed deletion request. Each deletion needs a written reason and the typed email or slug, follows the same rules (the sole-owner check, Stripe cancellation), sends the same confirmation emails, and is recorded in Comity's internal audit log.

API

The routes behind these pages (/v1/me/export, DELETE /v1/me, /v1/org/export, DELETE /v1/org, …) are listed under Your account and data.
